SPORTS

For this category I want to cover Top Shelf sports, not the usual pedestrian sports. The ones that are classy and rooted in old school money mentality. When I began my journey, I looked at looked at a number of resources and found there were a few that always came up. These are by no means the only ones but they are in my opinion the best. My first experience was with Polo. I found a club nearby and just went, not knowing what to expect but excited nonetheless. I jumped in my 92 Jaguar V12, dressed in a... polo shirt and white pants. When I got there it was crowded and everyone seemed to be having a great time. There were no 3 piece suits or women in heels eating caviar, head tilted back and asking for Jeeves to fill up their champagne glass. Instead it was everyone from all walks of life. I was instantly hooked. I ended up parking at the far end of the field because I got there late, but this turned out to be serendipitous. The first person to approach me was a polo player from the visiting team. He was from England. Turns out it was USA vs England in a friendly tournament. We began talking about my Jag and hit it off right away. He and his wife drove Range Rovers (of course) and ended the conversation with a handshake and good luck . I opened up my program and there he was. He had been in MI6 or something like that. Of course I'm thinking " that was James freaking Bond! I love this sport!" I don't know, maybe he wasn't in The Royal Navy and not a James Bonds double. Either way, pretty cool, right? Since then I've been a social member and it's been amazing. Everyone is very down to earth and I've made a lot of friends since then. I would encourage you to find a club near you and just go. You'll have a great time. Bring a few chairs, some good food and your favorite wine or drink of choice. Here are some other sports to look into. I have stories about how I found them all but I'll save that for a different time. A simple Google search for your area will of course help you find the clubs near you.

TENNIS, SAILING/YACHTING ( AMERICAS CUP IN PARTICULAR), ROWING, LACROSSE and FENCING.
In the Phila area, Brandywine Polo Club and in Bucks county Tinicum Polo Club. I'm a member of both and if you're ever curious and want to attend you can email me at topshelfluxury2024@gmail.com
America's Cup was in NYC and I got to be up close and in the front row at a Reserved tent just by being in the right place at the right time ( for free ). That's a story for another time...
